Class 3 exam pass mark and pass rate

How many points do you need, and how many people pass? This page uses the figures JASPA published for the 2025 (令和7) first session, whose written test was held on 5 October 2025.

The pass mark

JASPA's 2025 first-session results give the Class 3 written pass criterion (chassis, gasoline, diesel) as "1問1点、30点満点に対し21点以上": one point per item, 21 or more out of 30. Only the total counts.

How to read these figures

About seven in ten pass, but many candidates are Japanese vocational students who have completed a full course. For foreign candidates the biggest barrier is usually reading speed in Japanese. So practise until you are steadily above the mark, not just touching 21.

Your practice target

Aim for 24/30 or more on three or four papers in a row before the test. A three-item margin protects you against unfamiliar or slow-to-read items. The app scores against 21/30 and shows the score of every paper so you can track your progress.

VIP unlocks papers 4 to 20 in all three subjects (51 papers), the per-item tips and the detailed explanations for missed items. VIP is bought inside the iOS app with Apple payment, and Apple shows the price. The App Store version is coming soon. You can try the free exams on the web now.
